A celebration of the 150th anniversary of the Impressionist movement
From March 22 to September 22, 2024, the festival « Normandie Impressionniste » promises an exceptional program—over 150 events including contemporary and multidisciplinary art. The festival will be anchored by two major events:
The Rouen Fine Arts Museum (Musée des Beaux-Arts de Rouen) will hold a major Whistler exhibition from May 24 to September 22, 2024, featuring 20 to 30 paintings by the iconic American artist, James Abbott McNeill Whistler (1834-1903). To contrast his signature style, his works will be exhibited along with major works from his Impressionist contemporaries.
During this anniversary edition of the 2024 Normandy Impressionist Festival, the 12h edition of “La Cathédrale de Lumière,” the Rouen Cathedral’s summer sound & light show will be created by American theatre & multidisciplinary great Robert Wilson.
Reminder: Claude Monet (1840–1926) painted Normandy's famous Rouen Cathedral over thirty times.
FYI | The first Impressionist exhibition was held in Paris, in 1874 in the Studio Nadar. 150 years later, the Orsay Museum, in Paris will recreate this event: more to follow.
