FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PARIS, FRANCE | Tuesday, May 08, 2018 – Eccentric, scandalous, provocative, exuberant and funny as ever, Jean Paul Gaultier is shaking up Paris once again with a new genre: a show that blends the best of a revue and a fashion show.
In this extraordinary production starting Tuesday, October 2nd, 2018 at the Folies Bergère, actors, dancers and circus artists will take to the stage and play outlandish, passionate, larger than life, rude, sexy, sassy creatures and personalities.
As writer, director and set designer, Jean Paul Gaultier’s look at our times is extravagant and touching. An invitation for the audience to see behind the scenes into his over the top, poetic and magical world.
Memories from his childhood, early career, greatest fashion shows to the wild nights at the famous Parisian club Le Palace or in London, Jean Paul Gaultier shares his journal of the times and pays tribute to those who inspired him in film (Pedro Almodovar, Luc Besson), music (Madonna, Kylie Minogue, Mylène Farmer) and dance (Régine Chopinot, Angelin Prejlocaj).
In this grand party-like show, new original costumes as well as Jean Paul Gaulthier’s most iconic pieces will be brought to the stage with the exuberant scenography.
The show will be co-directed by actress, scriptwriter , director and his longstanding friend Tonie Marshall, and choreographed by Marion Motin (Madonna, Christine and the Queens, Stromae, RESISTE, the musical...)
Multiple Grammy-Award winning composer, producer, arranger and guitarist Nile Rodgers is joining the team of creatives for the eagerly awaited Jean Paul Gaultier Fashion Freak Show to produce the soundtrack including writing two original songs for the event. The soundtrack will also feature songs chosen by Jean Paul Gaultier.
As the co-founder of CHIC, Rodgers pioneered a musical language that generated chart-topping hits like “Le Freak” and sparked the advent of hip-hop with “Good Times.”
Nile Rodgers transcends all styles of music across every generation with a body of work that’s garnered him inductions into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
His work in the CHIC Organization and his productions for artists like David Bowie, Diana Ross and Madonna have sold over 300 million albums and 50 million singles worldwide while his innovative, trendsetting collaborations with Daft Punk, Avicii, Sigala, Mura Masa, Disclosure and Sam Smith reflect the vanguard of contemporary music.
