A "New" Destination for Americans: The Poitou-Charentes

Press release

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NEW YORK, NY, MAY 22, 2014 —The Poitou-Charentes-Cognac region is a perfect lesser-known destination for American travelers. It is easily accessible by high-speed train to Poitiers (1h30 mn), Angoulême (2h15mn) or La Rochelle (2h15 mn). The region lies on the Atlantic Coast between the Western Loire and Bordeaux Aquitaine.

It is a wonderful family destination, with its long sandy beaches, off-shore islands like the gem known as the Ile de Ré, it’s high-tech theme park “Futuroscope” and its storied marshlands called the Marais Poitevin. It is also home to France’s famed Cognac and to the Hermione, a perfect replica of La Fayette’s frigate which sailed in 1780 from the region’s port of Rochefort to join George Washington to fight in the American Revolutionary War. After tests in 2014, the Hermione will sail to America in 2015, retracing La Fayette’s journey to the United States.
