Avignon Biennial Rose Festival, Alterarosa, Returns to the Historic Palais des Papes, May 5-8th

For Immediate Release March 10, 2016 The Alterarosa’s ephemeral rose garden is coming back once again to the Palais des Papes’ majestic cloister for a four-day exhibition; the latest creations of the most celebrated French rose growers will be presented for the first time to the public. Alterarosa is a unique olfactory and sensory experience where visitors can discover new names of roses, fresh fragrances, and witness unbelievable colors. The People’s Choice Prize offers participants the opportunity to select their favorite flower and to win the rose that receives the most votes during the 2016 edition of the biennial festival. The venerable Société Française des Roses will hold conferences throughout the festival around the theme of the most popular flower; a great source of information for experts, amateurs and novices alike. Creative workshops will also be offered to children and adults. The festival holds true that whether it is the object of painting, the pattern of a crochet, or engraved on a medallion, the expression of the rose flower comes through everyone’s inspiration. A special Pink Circuit program offered to guests will present various workshops and activities by local artisans participating in the festival. The Pink Circuit itinerary will lead participants through the wonderful 14th Century Église des Célestins (Célestins Church), which for the festival will display a contemporary art piece created for the public, by the public that will consist of an origami garden imagined by the artist Mademoiselle Maurice. On Sunday, May 8th the festival will come to a close and culminate with a community picnic featuring local products at les Halles d'Avignon market. Special performances and children’s events will also take place.
