FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE "VERSAILLES", MORE THAN A FICTION!
The Paris Region Tourist Board is participating in the world premiere of the miniseries "Versailles", created by Simon Mirren and David Wolstencroft, which will close the Direct to Series showcase in Los Angeles on Wednesday, October 28. Organized by the Cultural Services of the French Embassy in the United States and Ile-de-France Film Commission, the program invites American visitors to follow in the footsteps of the Sun King through the iconic places during his reign in the Paris region.
An international co-production charting the king's rise to absolute power, season 1 of "Versailles" (10 episodes) particularly focuses on how and why the young, 28-year-old, Louis XIV decided to build the most beautiful palace in Europe. The first season was entirely filmed in the Paris Region. Six of the 14 settings from the series are open to visitors: the Châteaux de Versailles, Vaux-le-Vicomte, Maisons, Champs-sur-Marne, Rambouillet and Sceaux, on the outskirts of Paris. In addition to the filmed locations, Paris and the surrounding area still bear much invaluable evidence of the grandeur of the reign of Louis XIV, a lover of gardens and the arts, and a man of war. The "Versailles, more than a fiction" document presents an overview of the wealth of tourist attractions associated with him. François Navarro, Managing Director of the Paris Region Tourist Board, highlights: "The fascination with Versailles and Louis XIV still remains. With over 7.7 million visitors in 2014, the Versailles estate is more popular than the Eiffel Tower! The "Versailles" series offers a journey through time. Extending this concept, the Paris Region Tourist Board is giving you the chance to enjoy a unique experience in the greater Paris Region: follow in the footsteps of the Sun King today."
