FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NEW YORK, NY, OCTOBER, 2013 – Every autumn, the region of le Bessin in Normandy celebrates the start of the scallop harvest, a local Normandy delicacy, with two festivals organized for the occasion in the fishing harbors of the region.
Le Goût du Large in Port-en-Bessin-Huppain - November 9th & 10th
Since its first edition in 2004, the festival Le Goût du Large attracts over 50,000 visitors every year. Gastronomic delights abound for the festival's 10th rendition, including: culinary demonstrations with "Toques Normandes;" a book fair revolving around cuisine; restaurants featuring special "scallop menus;" and the rare opportunity to buy fresh scallops and other seafood from the professional fish market open to the general public for the occasion. Antique ships will be moored along the quays and passersby can watch fishermen repair their nets and sample delicious family recipes concocted by the fishermen's wives. History buffs can learn about the history of Port-en-Bessin-Huppain with guided tours, organized by the Leopold Sedar Senghor Cultural Centre. And finally, the festival will have a concert where local and international bands perform maritime songs to celebrate the region's rich naval heritage.
Scallop Festival in Grandcamp-Maisy - December 7th & 8th Inaugurated in 2007, the Scallop Festival of Grandcamp-Maisy fetes the start of the scallop harvest in the Baie de la Seine area. Featuring a country market and animated by maritime songs, the festival invites visitors to sample local cuisine, board fishing boats and sample recipes prepared by local chefs. The festival will end with a fireworks display on Sunday.
