Paris’ Pigalle district welcomed perhaps its most opulent hotel to date this winter, as the Belle Époque, Maison Souquet, [2] opened its doors. The hotel, composed of 14 rooms and six junior suites, is lavishly decorated with aristocratic flare and situated in a former 20th Century private mansion, Maisons Closes. The Maisons Particulières hotel group [3] hired the masterful interior designer Jacques Garcia (who most recently gave La Réserve Paris [4] an upgrade), to create a unique atmosphere. Inspired by the beauty of courtesans in the design of the hotel, Garcia blended curiously sensual tones with Grand Empire, Napoleonic and Art Deco references. Some 120 fabrics were used to create the various custom furnishings, wallpapering, and interiors, which differ from room to room. As guests enter the hotel, they are greeted in the Salon des 1001 Nuits (1001 Arabian Nights), which impresses with a décor reminiscent of the fanciful orient. Throughout the salons, there are handsome furnishings highlighted by stately columns, red marble floors, gilded and Cordovan leather inlay detailing and *quatrefoil *framework. Symbolist works of art, brocade and satin touches as well as a rich, gemstone palette, pervade in the rooms and common areas. Maison Souquet’s bar has a grandiose, yet discreet vibe thanks to a wood burning fireplace, piano, library paneling and plush, velvet sitting areas. Afternoon tea is a popular affair, as is evening aperitif where a wide assortment of craft abbey beers, wines and signature cocktails are served. Guests in search of dining can enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner, or take advantage of their establishment's 24-hour snack menu.. A verdant outdoor area, the conservatory, invites guests to take their drinks outside or grab some fresh air amidst the ivy and jasmine. Wellbeing and relaxation continues to be a theme in the Celestial Spa, a dazzling holistic space reserved for guests who request access to its swimming pool, hammam and treatment room.
