Bordeaux Wine Festinal and Tall Ship Regatta, 20th anniversary 14-17th June 2018

Bordeaux Wine Festival hosts The Three Festivals - Tall Ships Regatta

The history of Bordeaux’s wines and that of its port have been intertwined since ancient times. Together they built Bordeaux’s reputation as a leading international centre for maritime trade, with the wines acting as excellent ambassadors! For this reason, we were more than happy to accept the organizers of the Tall Ships Regatta’s proposal that the 2018 edition should conclude in Bordeaux.

A glorious meeting of Bordeaux’s wines with a magnificent fleet of sailing vessels... It also seemed only logical that the Regatta should be a guest of Bordeaux’s Wine Festival, which will thus celebrate its twentieth anniversary in spectacular fashion. With thirty of the most beautiful boats in the world, assembled for a regatta that will sail from Liverpool to Dublin and then to Bordeaux, our port will recreate the spectacular visit of the Cutty Sark Tall Ships’ Race in 1990 which was attended by hundreds of thousands of enthusiastic spectators. No doubt Bordeaux’s quays will once again attract huge crowds to enjoy the twin attraction of tasting the region’s wines and experiencing the thrill that these magnificent ships never fail to arouse.

Cité du Vin new exhibition : “Wine and Music, Chords and Discords” (16th-19th Centuries) : March 23 – June 24th

If Bacchus is the god of intoxication, sensual pleasure, fertility and inspiration, then the allegory of music is often associated with love, sensuality and wine. In festivities of every era, banquets and taverns have brought together wine and music in every setting, whether princely, bourgeois or popular. From grand palace decor to miniatures or imagery, court ballet to opera, drinking songs to dance melodies, evocations of wine and music are ubiquitous in the various forms reinvented for each era.
The exhibition will illustrate this multiplicity by covering mythical, secular, epicurean and even moralising topics across 140 works (paintings, drawings, song books, musical instruments, ceramics) and a musical journey split into different individual listening points and three shared listening booths (opera, drinking songs, ballet) from the 16th to 19th centuries. The exhibition is curated by Florence Gétreau, Director Emeritus of Research at CNRS.
