Deauville Photography PLANCHE(S) CONTACT FESTIVAL October 21 - November 26, 2017

Press release

THE BEACH UNDER THE SPOTLIGHT IN 2017

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

New-York—Tuesday, September 26th, 2017— The 2017 edition considers THE BEACH OF DEAUVILLE as the common thread of the festival and its exhibitions: from its relation with fashion to the constantly renewed glances put on people experiencing this place. It’s a place that been chosen and loved for more than thirty years by PETER LINDBERGH and his models.
The beach colours and lights inspire AGNES B., associated artistic director for the 2017 edition, while CLAUDE NORI and VASANTHA YOGANANTHAN, two photographers loving the Mediterranean beaches, explore and reproduce, through complementary perspectives, the sociological context of Deauville’s swimming pools and bath cabins.
FRANÇOISE HUGUIER, originally a fashion photographer, encounters Deauville’s social housing residents that daily frequent this beach.
TINA DASSAULT and ANNA VIVANTE reveal through their photos a composite band of elements left from the sea on the sand, a sort of contemporary archaeology that includes “natural and humanmade treasures and miseries”.
At the same time, two photographers invited by Agnès B. - EMMA CHARRIN & CELINE VILLEGAS -, then LYNDA LAIRD, laureate of the 2016 students’ contest, and five young aspiring photographers experience Deauville together with senior artists during a photographic residence lasting three weeks.

Since its creation in 2010, Planche(s) contact – the Festival of photographic creation of Deauville – constantly reinvents itself through novelties and explorations of a city with multiple identities.

FRANCOISE HUGUIER CAPTURES DAILY LIFE IN DEAUVILLE

From Africa Fantôme to Polar Siberia, from the collective flats of Saint Petersburg to Seoul, and up to the borders of Grand Paris. For her intimate approach, Françoise Huguier is considered a documentary and sociological photographer, focusing on people.

CLAUDE NORI: THE DOLCE VITA IN DEAUVILLE

Claude Nori, always travelling from Italian beaches to the Basque Coast, loves seaside landscapes and atmospheres. His works about summer represent both daydream and sweet idleness. He is the author of iconic images, symbols of the dolce vita: a sweet summer break. This passionate photographer is attentive to the game of seduction: his photo-biographical quest is nourished by the countless vivid joys of life’s summers.

VASANTHA YOGANANTHAN: DEAUVILLE, SEA PERIPHERY

Vasantha Yogananthan, 32-year-old self-taught photographer, belongs to a young generation of photographers that love blurring the lines between reality and fiction. Though capturing subjects with a strong social dimension, his images have nothing to do with traditional documentaries.
