Press release

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

For the first time, Atout France, the France Tourism Development Agency, will be partnering with France Pavilion organizers during Art Basel Miami Beach week 2015, with an exhibit that will on view from November 15th to December 31st 2015. Spanning over 5,000 square feet of exhibition space, France Pavilion will showcase the powerful creativity of French artists including all media and all forms of arts (design, fashion, etc.) The exhibit will display photographs from Atout France’s latest tourism campaign, Fall for France, under the direction of the Project Manager Sophie Holubinka, in collaboration with photographer Braden Summers. Braden Summers is an artist known for his portraits that are appreciative of diversity and acceptance. His work has been featured in Marie Claire UK, on the sites of French Elle, French Glamour, Advocate and The Huffington Post. Marriott International worked with Mr. Summers on their latest campaign #LoveTravels, depicting love and family in the LGBT community and beyond. Summers and his team traveled to Poitiers, Nice, Marseilles, Dijon and Reims, France to produce a unique, traveling photo exposé that captured the “romantic” and ethereal spirit of France in a highly artistic way.

France Pavilion and its partners will be targeting the audience of art collectors and lovers, as well as trendsetters and opinion leaders, during Art Basel Miami Beach. France Pavilion will be presented in partnership with Atout France, France’s official tourism agency. On display will be a curated selection of 20 established French artists such as Raphaelle Ricol Richard Orlinski and Maurice Renoma.

In addition to the exceptional exhibits, art talks, conferences and entertainment will be offered through the end of the year.

Atout France’s participation at France Pavilion during Art Miami Beach week reaffirms the important role that the visual arts play in French tourism. Moreover, it draws emphasis on the diverse array of upcoming arts exhibitions that will take place in and around France in 2016. Such events include:

• A major temporary Picasso exhibit at Les Abbatoirs, the modern art museum of Toulouse

• “J'aime les Panoramas” (I Love Panoramas) taking place at MUCEM, the European and Mediterranean Civilizations Museum in Marseille

• The reopening of the Unterlinden Museum in Colmar – home to the remarkable Isenheim Altarpiece

• The reopening of the Franco-American Museum of Blérancourt after an ambitious expansion that includes a new wing and reorganization to showcase its comprehensive collection of art and documents dedicated to the Franco-American relationship.

Also exhibiting at the France Pavilion with Atout France will be the Guadeloupe Islands, who will present a selection of photos from the Caribbean Image Festival hosted at Memorial ACTe.

This year, The Guadeloupe Islands opened the world’s largest museum dedicated to the Memory and History of Slavery from the early seventeenth century to present day; Memorial ACTe. Located in the island’s capital Pointe-à-Pitre, the cultural center also serves as a museum of contemporary Caribbean art. During a recent visit, American civil rights leader Reverend Jesse Jackson commented:

“This is the most phenomenal museum of its kind in the whole world, I have been to museums in numerous cities across the world, we are now building a significant one in Washington DC, but this is the most complete museum of ours in the world and this is not the last one. It is the signal we need more museums to tell us about our story.”

Exhibiting with Atout France in Miami Beach will be Myriam Maxo. Originally from the Guadeloupe Islands (Le Moule in Grande Terre), Mxo is a graduate from The London College of Communication, as well as an artist and interior designer, best known for her stuffed animals (“Doudous”) made of wax and her sculptures called "Totem." Her Doudous were recently recognized by Beyoncé. Maxo's designs are colorful, playful and global; seeking inspiration from her travels around the Caribbean, Africa, America and Asia.
