Spiritual Tourism

Press release

All of the paths of St James are in Midi-Pyrénées Wide open spaces, silence, light and serenity typify Midi-Pyrenees, a region where you will find the authenticity, vivacity and majesty of the pilgrimage roads leading to Santiago de Compostela. Traversed in its entirety by the principal pilgrimage roads of France, as well as the route from Puy, the route from Arles and the route from the Pyrenean foothills, the Midi-Pyrenees region overflows with religious architectural treasures, major way stations like Conques or Moissac, and paths inseparably connected to the spirit of pilgrimage found along the Camino. Lourdes Lourdes is a small mountain city with all the standing of a big one. A trip here is an escape from the daily grind, a journey within a journey, a retreat to a place not soon forgotten. Cosmopolitan and compassionate, Lourdes welcomes six million visitors a year from 140 countries and every continent, all interested in sharing stories, encounters and emotions. While above all a place of fraternity and spirituality, Lourdes is also a natural paradise, the starting point for many walks through an honest, noble, subdued and intimate country where thrills mix with simple contemplation. On December 8, 2015, the feast day of the Immaculate Conception, the Sanctuary of Lourdes solemnly begins the Year of the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy, as decreed by Pope Francis in a "Bull of Indiction."
