Musée Picasso and Musée Rodin Unveil a Simultaneous Exhibit: Picasso-Rodin: One Exhibition, Two Places

As of June 9th, American visitors are expected to be welcomed back in France once more. So as you begin planning your return trip be sure to reserve tickets for the Musée national Picasso Paris' next exhibition: Picasso–Rodin: One Exhibition, Two Places, an event exhibition also produced in collaboration with the Musée Rodin.

Beginning May 19th and running until January 2, 2022 the exhibit will be held simultaneously in both museums. Each venue will take a perspective: the Musée Rodin looks at the crisis of representation in the early 20th century, while the Musée national Picasso Paris focuses on their creative processes. Picasso and Rodin were both formative figures in modern art and the exhibition will exemplify their shared practice of serial work and their mutual preference for experimentation and constantly-changing forms. The exhibit will also speak to the role that these two makers have in shaping their public image.

Through over 500 paintings, sculptures, ceramics, drawings, archival documents and photographs visitors witness a dialogue between the two artists and discover their similarities. The exhibition does not aim to show what Picasso borrowed from Rodin, but rather to explore how elements of Rodin’s oeuvre merged with periods in Picasso’s artistic career.

As the catalog notes, "Each in his own way, they invented a new form of representation – expressionist in Rodin’s case and cubist in Picasso’s. They both preferred to work in their studios, experimenting with forms and materials and developing innovative approaches involving serial projects, fragmentation, assemblage and détournement. Both artists were constantly evolving in their exploration of the ever-changing world around them"
